— -- Martha Stewart only spends part of the summer and a few weekends out of the year at her home in Maine, but it's one of her favorite places.
In the new issue of Architectural Digest magazine, the lifestyle guru showed off the estate, called Skylands, which she purchased nearly 20 years ago.
“I look at myself as the caretaker of an American treasure,” she said.
The 12-bedroom home, which sits on 63 acres overlooking Seal Harbor, was designed by architect Duncan Candler. Stewart, 72, purchased Skylands fully furnished from the people who bought it from the family of automotive heir Edsel Ford (only son of Henry).
“I didn’t have to buy a plate,” Stewart said, “although I’ve certainly added my fair share.”
