If you are like many of us, all you have been hearing today is that "Guardians of the Galaxy" is finally in theaters.
Reviews, interviews with the cast, et cetera, et cetera.
The only thing is "Guardians" is no "Avengers," no "X-Men," so aside from most die-hard comic fans, most people have no idea who these characters are. So, guess what, here you go -- the only cheat sheet you'll need before heading to the movie this weekend.
Here's a breakdown of the team.
Quill, an American, is played by up-and-comer Chris Pratt. According to Marvel Wiki, Quill was abducted as a child and raised by thieves, so you can guess that he must be very crafty. His weapons of choice, include a "quad blaster" and his witty charms -- Watch out Zoe Saldana. Basically, he's an outlaw type, think modern day Han Solo. IMDB says he's stolen a powerful Orb and thus all hell breaks loose.
Groot is a tree-like character voiced by Vin Diesel. His real title/species is Flora Colossus from Planet X. By the way, all he says the whole movie is "I am Groot." He's heavy at 4258 Grets, according to Marvel, whatever that means. His eyes are black and he has no hair, just like Diesel! Much like his tree appearance, Groot's skill is that he can grow at will. This ain't your typical redwood!
Rocket is Groot's partner. He's voiced by Bradley Cooper, yeah the very same Oscar nominee from "Silver Linings Playbook." Rocket looks like your typical raccoon, but dressed as a bad mama jama with armor and weapons galore. His real name is 89P13 and he was genetically altered with enhanced bones. He hails from Halfworld and is into blowing things up. He's also very smart, so he balances out his bulky tree-like friend.
Gamora is a killer with killer green looks, voiced by Zoe Saldana. Her job is an assassin and she was raised by Thanos, one of the Avenger's greatest adversaries. Thanos can destroy worlds, so don't let Gamora's beauty fool you, she can handle herself and should be feared. Her job in this movie is to find the same powerful Orb that Quill has stolen and nothing is going to get in her way.
Dave Batista, yeah the beast from the WWE plays Drax, so you don't need to know anything about the character to know he's bad! Add the fact that his mission is to avenge the murder of his family and, wow, this ought to be good. Drax has red tattoos all over his body that tell various stories about his history.
