— -- Even before Nick and Vanessa Lachey welcomed their daughter in January, they knew they wanted to name her something sentimental.

The new dad said that baby Brooklyn was named for New York City, where he lives part-time.

"Truth of the matter is, she was conceived here, so we wanted to pay homage to New York and Manhattan didn't have the same ring," Lachey told ABC News. "We wanted to make it special. You don't want to sacrifice the ring of a name, but if it has meaning, it makes it extra-special."

Lachey, 41, has a lot on his plate. In addition to hosting "Big Morning Buzz" on VH1, he just opened a bar in his hometown of Cincinnati and he's working as a spokesperson for Twix. (For the record, in the left Twix/right Twix debate, a promotion for the candy bar, he's thrown his support behind left Twix -- a combination of chocolate and peanut butter.)

"[Free candy] is a perk," he said with a laugh. "I'm a big fan!"

He's also working hard to raise his two kids. Camden, he said, has embraced the role of big brother -- buoyed by a gift that his little sister gave him when he visited her in the hospital.

"It's a transition for anyone to embrace the idea of someone coming in to take their attention away, but he's good," Lachey said. "He's very protective. If she's crying, he wants to make sure we know she's crying and find out why. He's very concerned. His older brother instincts have kicked in!"
