— -- Friends and family surrounded Diem Brown when she died today at the age of 32.

But the beloved reality star may just have given them a sign that she's now in a better place after battling cancer for the third and final time.

Best friend Julie Rotondi told People magazine that after she died in a "peaceful" manner, the most remarkable thing happened.

Brown died at 10:22 a.m., exactly the same time she was born in 1982. Soon after, the hospital's fire alarm triggered.

"There were strobe lights, and it was so loud – like a dance club," Rotondi said. "All of our hearts stopped. It was classic Diem. She was up there having her dance off. It could not have been more fitting. It was like, 'Yep. She did that. "

The MTV veteran and MedGift creator never gave up, even after doctors told Brown there was nothing they could do when her colon cancer had spread to her liver and lymph nodes.

"We kept telling her, 'This is not giving up. You have fought enough,'" Rotondi said.

Brown, 32, eventually decided to spend her final hours with friends like Rotondi and fellow journalist Alicia Quarles. At her death she was surrounded by her father, brother, sister and her father's fiancée.

"It's a beautiful day out," Quarles said.
