There won't be wedding bells for Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki after all.
The golfer, 25, revealed that he split from the tennis player, 23, a few days ago.
"The problem is mine," McIlroy said in a statement, according to the U.K.'s Telegraph newspaper. "The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realize that I wasn't ready for all that marriage entails. ... I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we've had."
McIlroy and Wozniacki announced their engagement on New Year's Eve last year. They began dating in 2011.
At a news conference, McIlroy, who is currently playing in the European Tour's main event at Wentworth Club, called the split "mutual and amicable."
"We both thought it was the best thing for both of us. Time to move on," he said. "I just want to dive straight into [golf] and keep myself somewhat busy and just try and have a good week on the course."
