Mariah Carey Hospitalized for Exhaustion
July 27 -- Pop star Mariah Carey has been hospitalized due to "extreme exhaustion," according to her spokeswoman.
Carey checked herself into a hospital Wednesday night, but it's not clear which hospital Carey is in, or even which country she's in.
A statement was released by her rep in London, where Carey was promoting her new album, the soundtrack to Glitter (an autobiographical film she's starring in), while her New York rep released a separate statement. Both statements attribute Carey's exhaustion to her many projects, including filming two movies (Glitter and Wise Girls) while also writing, recording, and producing the soundtrack.
Cindi Berger would not say what Carey's symptoms were but told The Associated Press, "She's been working around the clock."
Before going to the hospital, the Grammy-winning singer posted a message on her official Web site; the message has since been removed, according to the AP.
"What I'd like to do is just take a little break or at least get one night of sleep without someone popping up about a video," Carey wrote in the online post. "All I really want is to just be me and that's what I should have done in the first place … I don't say this much, but guess what, I don't take care of myself."
Berger said of the message, "She was obviously very tired and not thinking clearly."
The 31-year-old singer has canceled all public appearances, including her performance at next week's MTV 20th anniversary party in New York, the AP reports.
Meanwhile, people are buzzing about Carey's impromptu appearance on MTV's Total Request Live last week, in which she continually prevented TRL host Carson Daly from going to a commercial break.
When asked about the MTV appearance, Berger told the AP, "She just hasn't been herself for a little while, and it just caught up with her."
