Chart Watch: Madonna's Music
September 27 -- Top 10: Never, ever, count out Madonna. The Material Mom stormed back onto the scene this week, selling 419,601 copies of her latest effort, Music, easily capturing the top spot on the charts. Nelly's Country Grammar, dethroned a week ago by LL Cool J, remained at No. 2, selling more than 182,000 copies, followed by Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP, which sells almost 131,000 at No. 3.
Creed's Human Clay sells 130,000 copies at No. 4, while last week's No. 1, LL Cool J's G.O.A.T., drops to No. 5, with sales of 126,000. The sophomore album from Britney Spears, Oops! … I Did It Again, moves up a notch to No. 6, selling 108,000 copies, while George Strait's new self-titled album bows at No. 7, selling almost 107,000.
'N Sync's No Strings Attached remains at No. 8, selling another 99,000, while the Baha Men's Who Let the Dogs Out finally cracks the Top 10 in its seventh week on the charts, selling almost 84,000 copies.
Yesterday's Heroes: Two albums bowed in the Top 10 last week, only to drop out this week. Boyz II Men's Nathan Michael Shawn Wanya, at No. 4 a week ago, drops to No. 13, selling 76,000, while the Barenaked Ladies' Maroon falls 10 notches to No. 15, with sales of 73,000. Additionally, Too $hort's You Nasty, which bowed at No. 12 last week, falls to No. 18, selling just under 55,000, and the Baller Blockin' soundtrack, last week's No. 13, falls to No. 16, selling 60,000 copies.
Notable Debuts: Outside of the Top 10, several albums had impressive debuts, led by Cam'ron's S.D.E., which sells 73,000 at No. 14. Fuel's Something Like Human sells 60,000 at No. 17, while Barbra Streisand's Timeless sells more than 51,000 at No. 21. Further down, Björk's Selmasongs: Music From the Motion Picture Dancer in the Dark, sells 31,000 at No. 41, while Amil's All Money Is Legal comes in at No. 45, with sales of more than 29,000. Other debuts: Tela's The World Is Not Enuff (No. 47; 28,000), Nature's For All Seasons (No. 50; 27,000), Kandi's Hey Kandi (No. 72; almost 20,000), Willie Nelson's Milk Cow Blues (No. 83; 17,000), Terri Clark's Fearless (No. 85; 16,000), and Fastball's The Harsh Light of Day (No. 97; 14,000).
