Mischa Barton Busted for DUI

Dec. 27, 2007 — -- It's a plot twist that would have been perfect for the show she used to star in.

Actress Mischa Barton was arrested in Los Angeles for driving under the influence, possession of narcotics and driving without a valid license, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and celebrity news site Hollyscoop.com.

Barton, 21, played blond burnout Marissa Cooper on "The O.C.," the now defunct Fox drama about teenagers running into trouble with their families and the law in ultra-exclusive Orange County, Calif.

Barton was pulled over at 2:45 a.m. while driving in West Hollywood. She was "straddling two lanes of traffic and failed to signal when making a turn," according to a press release from the sheriff's department.

The actress is still in custody, being held on $10,000 bail.

Since "The O.C." went off the air in early 2007, Barton has been largely out of the spotlight. Her most prominent current role is as the face of Keds sneakers.

Barton is the latest in a string of high-profile starlets to be arrested for DUI. Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie and Lindsay Lohan all served time for DUI-related charges this year.
