— -- Taylor Swift has vowed to donate $1 million to relief efforts in Louisiana after recent floods caused widespread destruction in the state.

The singer's love for Louisiana goes back to the start of her 1989 world Tour, she said in a statement to ABC News.

"We began the 1989 World Tour in Louisiana, and the wonderful fans there made us feel completely at home," Swift, 26, said in the statement. "The fact that so many people in Louisiana have been forced out of their own homes this week is heartbreaking. I encourage those who can to help out and send your love and prayers their way during this devastating time."

President Obama declared a federal emergency in Louisiana on Sunday due to the flooding. At least 11 have died and about 40,000 homes have been affected, according to authorities.
