'Once Upon a Time' Reveals LGBT Relationship
"In a fairy tale, as in life, love is love," the show's creators say.
— -- On Sunday's "Once Upon a Time," the hit ABC show featured its first LGBT couple between characters Ruby and Dorothy, both fairy tale icons.
Rudy, played by Meghan Ory, comes across Dorothy in the land of Oz to work together to take down, you guessed it, the Wicked Witch.
After being put in a sleeping curse, it's only Ruby who can save Dorothy.
Mulan, another Disney classic, urges Ruby to follow her heart: "Don’t make the same mistake that I did. Don’t wait until it’s too late to tell someone how you feel.”
“True love’s kiss has been a staple of this show since the beginning. This past Sunday’s episode was just another example of how in a fairy tale, as in life, love is love,” producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis said in a statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter's recap of the show.
The show's producers had teased the first LGBT relationship for some time, but have also stated that their love would be no different from, say, Prince Charming and Snow White.
The show also tweeted out the iconic moment of the famed kiss, which is a modernized version of the sleeping kiss we know from the classic fairy tales.
The show's episode was appropriately titled "Ruby Slippers," which also started to trend a bit Sunday night on social media.
Even Rebecca Mader, who plays the Wicked Witch, showed her support for the groundbreaking episode.
