Tom Hanks Is a Grandfather Again, Chet Hanks Confirms Birth of Daughter
Hanks' son Chet confirmed the birth of his daughter on Instagram.
— -- Congrats are in order for Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson. They're grandparents again.
The actors' son Chet Hanks revealed in an emotional video that he welcomed a daughter and explained why he had kept the news under wraps.
"I know I’ve been not been active on the [Insta]gram lately, because I’ve been figuring out my life, which is what we’re all doing, and social media’s all bull---- anyway," he began.
"I want to share something today because it’s about to be shared anyway in the press, which is the fact that I have a daughter," Chet Hanks, 26, revealed. "I do have a daughter."
He said his daughter, whose name and birthdate he didn't share, helped him battle addiction.
"She’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. She’s the reason why I turned my life around and got sober. I’ve been sober for over a year and a half from everything," he said.
Hanks said he didn't share the news, nor pictures of his daughter, on social media "because her privacy is sacred to me. She is sacred to me. She’s not something to be posted."
"She’s something that I love that’s changed my life, but the fact is she’s about to be shared with everybody, so I wanted you to hear it from me before you hear it from the media," he added.
Hanks, a rapper, said, "It hasn’t been easy making all my mistakes in public, but I’m figuring it out. I’m doing the best that I can."
On Twitter he mentioned the mother of his child. And although he didn't confirm her identity, he wrote that he's "thankful that my daughter has such a great mom."
Hanks revealed last year that he was struggling from drug addictions and went to rehab.
In one video he said, "A couple months ago, I was selling coke, doing coke until I couldn't even snort it up my nose, it was so clogged. I even smoked crack. If I can change, you can change, there is a solution."
Tom Hanks' rep did not immediately respond to a request for comment about his son.
