To co-opt Nina Simone's "Feeling Good," it's a new year, a new day and for some celebrities that means a new life, without their current partner or, better yet, with someone new.
For Katy Perry and Russell Brand, their union didn't even make it into the new year.
Brand filed for divorce last week, saying, "Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends."
"I think that's how we're going to start out the year -- with their breakup," Us Weekly senior editor Ian Drew predicted. There's no way they can stay together."
He's referring to their holidays spent on separate continents, where both were photographed sans wedding rings. Virtually newlyweds -- they married in October 2010 -- Perry and Brand are the first Hollywood couple casualty of the new year.
But theirs won't be the only heartbreak in Hollywood this year. Click through to see our predictions for nine other Hollywood's hookups and breakups in 2012.

Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes
Heartthrob Ryan Gosling, 31, and beauty Eva Mendes, 37, are definitely one of Hollywood's most gorgeous couples. Though they've shown some serious PDA in Paris in November as well as their shared sense of humor in the Funny or Die spoof on "The Night Before Christmas," many doubt their relationship will survive 2012.
"I don't see that one lasting," Drew said. "It seems so random, so out of the blue. They are both very attractive, but they don't seem like such a natural fit."

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively
The other Ryan from Canada, Ryan Reynolds, introduced new love Blake Lively to his family over the holidays, but Drew doesn't think that's a sign this relationship will last. "We've seen him do this before and he breaks up after a few months," he said. "These are two people who can't stick in relationships for very long."

Jennifer Lopez and Casper Smart
Jennifer Lopez, 42, is obviously having fun with new boyfriend, Casper Smart, her 24-year-old backup dancer. Over the holidays, the pair jetted to Hawaii and Morocco, shopped for jewelry in LA and dined with her fellow "American Idol" judges in Vegas. But Drew calls the romance a rebound from J Lo's split from husband Marc Anthony last year. "It's not going to last," he said, "but I say, 'Go ahead with your bad, J Lo self.'"

Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney
After keeping their relationship under wraps, Lady Gaga and "Vampire Diaries" star Taylor Kinney were finally photographed arm-in-arm in Los Angeles at the end of last year. Drew cautions reading too much into the photo. He said last summer's hookup after he starred in Gaga's video "You and I" is sure to turn into this year's breakup.
"It's more like a sex hookup," he said. "I think she thinks he's hot, but he's not much of an artist."

Bradley Cooper and Zoe Saldana
Nothing like a new Hollywood hookup to get tongues wagging. Buzz was building by year's end that "The Words" co-stars were replicating their on-screen romance in real life with a trip to the Rockies. "They are totally dating," a source told E! Drew said, "It would be a natural thing," but cautioned, "who hasn't he been with?"

Lindsay Vonn and Tim Tebow
She's an Olympic champion skier and he's the hot new NFL quarterback. A hookup between Lindsay Vonn and Tim Tebow appears made in Hollywood if they can overcome some obvious hurdles -- she just filed for divorce from husband/manager/coach Thomas Vonn and he's a publicly declared virgin. After tweeting that she wasn't dating Tebow, Vonn told TMZ she's not opposed to it. One thing in her favor: she's friends with his family.

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux
Though they hooked up in 2011, the state of their relationship continues to be a source for speculation. Drew says their prognosis for 2012 is good. They relationship appears solid -- they sent out holiday cards from Jen and Justin -- but don't expect them to rush into marriage. "Jennifer has already done the big profile marriage," Drew said. "I wouldn't be surprised if they just stayed together a long time but never got married. I can see her just being happy to be with him."

Debra Messing and Will Chase
Another relationship brewing at year's end was between another set of co-stars, Debra Messing and Will Chase from the television show "Smash." Both recently announced that they were separating from their spouses amid reports that they had become an on-set item. This nascent relationship comes with complications -- namely Messing's 7-year-old son and Chase's two daughters -- so it's too early to tell if it will make it through 2012.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver
When Arnold Schwarzenegger came clean about his love child with the family housekeeper, it seemed impossible that his wife of 25 years, Maria Shriver, would stand by him. Since filing for divorce in June, however, Shriver may be having second thoughts. A source told TMZ that Shriver is reconsidering the divorce, in part because of her Catholic faith. The estranged couple spent the holidays together along with their four children and, perhaps in a show of optimism that they could reconcile in 2012, Schwarzenegger has been seen wearing his wedding ring again.
