Trump should stay far away from conversations on sexual misconduct: Jimmy Kimmel
Trump chimed in on Matt Lauer’s firing, but some say that was a mistake.
— -- President Donald Trump immediately chimed in on Matt Lauer’s firing from NBC News on Wednesday, but considering his own past some late-night hosts said it’s a topic the president should stay far away from.
“If anyone knows about inappropriate behavior in the workplace at NBC, it’s Donald J. Trump,” “Live” host Jimmy Kimmel said Wednesday evening. “Is he aware that he’s him?”
Kimmel's comments came after Trump, who has also faced allegations of sexual misconduct in the past, tweeted about Lauer's firing from "The Today Show" and urged officials to look into NBC News chairman Andy Lack.
“Wow, Matt Lauer was just fired from NBC for ‘inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace,’" Trump tweeted Wednesday morning. "But when will the top executives at NBC & Comcast be fired for putting out so much Fake News. Check out Andy Lack’s past!”
Trump hosted the reality series "The Apprentice" on NBC for 14 seasons.
“The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert also urged Trump to stay away from the conversation.
"More than a dozen women have accused Trump of improper conduct or sexual assault," Colbert said. “Listen up! You don't get to comment! That is the pot calling the kettle at 3 a.m. and asking what she's wearing.”
“The Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon also opened his show by addressing the firing of his fellow NBC mainstay.
“President Trump tweeted about Matt Lauer being fired and went on to attack NBC News executives and Joe Scarborough,” Fallon said. “Then Kim Jong Un was like, ‘Uh, did you guys not see that missile yesterday or -- [ laughter and applause ] I mean, I know you're busy, but I can re-launch it or something. Are you kidding me here?’”
Lack announced Lauer's termination in a memo Wednesday morning, saying the company had received "a detailed complaint from a colleague" Monday night "about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace by Matt Lauer."
