Intense Search for Suspect in Wife's Onstage Shooting

July 17, 2007 — -- A multistate manhunt continues this morning for a National Guardsman wanted in connection with the sniper-style killing of his estranged wife, who was shot while she was singing onstage in a bar with her classic rock and country band.

Police may have found a break in the case today, when they found the black Dodge pickup truck of David Munis, The Associated Press reported.

Authorities found the vehicle in a canyon after a tip from a caller, who also claimed to have spotted Munis about 40 miles from the Cheyenne, Wyo., bar where his wife was killed.

Robin Munis, 40, was shot midsong with one bullet to the head and killed instantly.

Police say her estranged husband, David, 36, is a former National Guardsman with military sniper training.

The bullet came from outside the club, near the parking lot, police say."It's a hard shot. It would be hard for any civilian to make that shot," said a police officer on the scene.

Munis is now on the run and police believe he is armed and dangerous.

The suspect, described by people who know him as a "big hunter" and an avid outdoorsman, may have headed for the woods, police said.

It was just after midnight, and Robin Munis was singing a happy song when she was killed; it was Toby Keith's "I Love This Bar."

That's when a bullet came through a glass door at the Old Chicago Restaurant and Bar in Cheyenne.

"I looked over and saw her on the floor," said band member Ty Warner. "That's when I knew she had been shot."

The Munises had recently separated, and police say they warned Munis to stop harassing his wife just hours before she was shot.

According to police, eyewitnesses say they saw David Munis near the Old Chicago Bar early Saturday morning, around the time of the shooting.

As Munis runs, his wife's friends, family, co-workers and band mates mourn her, remembering her as a devoted mother of four and a lover of music.

"Robin was a great woman," said friend Brent Sherard. "We were lucky to have had her in our lives."
