Ciara Performs on 'GMA'
Aug. 19, 2005 — -- Fans filled New York City's Bryant Park to see Ciara -- who has just been nominated for nine MTV Video Music Awards -- sing three hits as part of "Good Morning America's" Summer Concert Series.
First Ciara sang "Goodies," followed by "1, 2 Step." For her third song, she performed "Oh," which is No. 41 on the Billboard Hot 100, staying on the charts for 23 weeks.
In 2002, at the age 15, Ciara Princess Harris met producer Jazze Pha, who has worked with Toni Braxton and OutKast. Within five days, Pha had signed her to his Sho'Nuff label.
Ciara, now 19, has been called the Queen of Crunk & B because she was the first woman to do a Crunk record -- "Goodies," her debut CD that went double platinum. Crunk is a type of high-energy hip hop music that originated in Atlanta. Ciara wrote 11 of the 13 songs on "Goodies."
Two weeks ago, Ciara joined The Anger Mangagment Tour, and will travel with it through mid-September. She's the only woman on tour with the likes of 50 Cent, Lil John and Ludacris. Tonight they're performing at Jones Beach in Long Island, N.Y.
Travel is nothing new to Ciara, who grew up as an Army brat, with her father in the Army and her mother in the Air Force. Born in Austin, Texas, she's lived in Germany, California, Arizona, New York and Atlanta, where she went to high school.
Ciara said that moving around affected her personality more than her musical style.
"I think it influenced me more as a person," she said. "It allowed me to adapt to different surroundings."
