Aug. 13, 2004 -- The Black Eyed Peas performed "Let's Get It Started in Here," "Hey Mama," and "Where is the Love" on "Good Morning America" Friday as part of the morning show's summer concert series.

Their latest album, Elephunk has sold more than 1.4 million copies in the United States and total sales worldwide have topped 6 million, according to Universal Music International.

The progressive hip-hop group got their first break in the late '90s when they were signed to Interscope Records, now A&M.

The band's first two albums, Behind the Front in 1998 and Bridging the Gap in 2000 received positive reviews but failed to go gold.

Behind the Front peaked at No. 139 on the Billboard 200 with sales of 197,000 albums, according Nielsen SoundScan.

Bridging the Gap made it to No. 67 with sales of 258,000 albums.

The band followed up with Elephunk in June 2003. The album went platinum after the release of the band's hit single "Where Is the Love?"

William Adams (aka Will.I.Am) founded the Black Eyed Peas with Allen Pineda (aka Apl.de.Ap) and Jaime Gomez (aka Taboo).

Stacy Ferguson (aka Fergie) joined the group in 2002, months after she was asked to sing on "Shut Up," the second single from "Elephunk."

Prior to "Where Is the Love?" the Black Eyed Peas said they had a hard time getting radio play because the band's sound was so different.

Three months after Elephunk went platinum, the Black Eyed Peas released a new version of the album containing the track "Let's Get It Started."

Following the rerelease, the album climbed the charts again, and hit the top 15 of The Billboard 200.

Before their performance on Good Morning America, the Black Eyed Peas sad they've enjoyed touring around the world this past year and they're looking forward to the release of the band's next album Monkey Business.
