Tanning Butler Rubs Guests the Right Way
July 30, 2004 -- It's not likely that Michael grew up dreaming of his newfound profession. In fact, the luxurious service he provides probably didn't even exist.
Michael, who didn't want his last name revealed, is a "tanning butler" at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in the South Beach area of Miami.
He spends his days rubbing lotion over the backs of bikini-clad ladies on the beach and around the pool. His uniform is a simple pair of swim trunks and a hip bag that holds the lotions.
Michael says tanning butlers need to always be thinking of the guest, like most hotel service jobs.
"There are three key factors involved in being a tanning butler. It's a high level of personal service, lots of personality and embodying the feeling of South Beach," Michael said on Good Morning America.
Michael's attention to detail must be paying off since guests often ask for him at the hotel by name.
