Adults may indulge in candy just as much as the kids do on Easter. Joel Kampfe, wine director of ENO Wine Bar, offers wine pairings for any sweet you might indulge in on Sunday. Whether it's jelly beans or a chocolate bunny, rest assured your wine will complement them perfectly.
Pairing: NV Bailly-Lapierre Cremant de Bourgogne Sparkling Rose
The pink meat of the marshmallows are perfectly paired with this pink wine, a mixture of pinot noir and gamay. The wine has a floral, strawberry flavor.
Cadbury Creme Eggs:
Pairing: Blandy's 10-Year Malmsey Madeira
Kampfe says, "This dessert wine's smooth, weighty texture (and vanilla, nutty finish) can stand up to the creamiest of your Easter delectables."
Pairing: 2011 Ehlen Erdener Treppchen Kabinett Riesling
This clean, citrusy riesling can help wash down a bunch of super-sweet jelly beans.
Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs
Pairing: NV A. Robert Grand Cru Blanc de Blanc Champagne
Dry and light in body, this champagne offers a hint of sweetness that won't overpower the nutty peanut butter eggs.
Pairing: Ruby Reserve Porto from Quinta do Tedo
If you prefer a solid chocolate bunny, Kempfe suggests a smooth yet robust porto from a French winemaker. "But if you're like me, and you can't get enough of that hollowed bunny's hollowed structure, pop open a bottle of lush, velvety-textured 2009 L'ecole Columbia Valley Merlot from Washington state. I swear, the soil of Columbia Valley must be comprised of sandy loam and milk chocolate," he says.
Carrot Cake M&Ms
Pairing: 2011 Dr. Loosen Riesling
Made with white chocolate, carrot cake M&Ms are a new take on an old classic. This German riesling is refreshing and fruity.
Whopper Robin Eggs
Pairing: Iota Pinot Noir
Kampfe says, "This light and crunchy, yet malty treat deserves nothing less than a healthy dose of Iota pinot noir from Willamette Valley from Oregon ... because there is nothing small about this Iota pinot noir."
Pairing: 2010 Le Rocher des Violettes
With smooth notes of apples, honey and citrus, Kempfe suggests "one of my favorite sparkling wines, the 2010 Le Rocher des Violettes, made from the varietal, chenin blanc."
