March 30, 2006 — -- "World News Tonight" co-anchor Bob Woodruff received the Radio & Television Association David Bloom award for excellence in enterprise reporting Wednesday night.

ABC Chief White House correspondent Martha Raddatz accepted the award for her colleague and read a statement from Woodruff, who is in a New York rehabilitation facility recovering from injuries sustained during a roadside bomb attack in Iraq.

"I am so honored to accept the David Bloom award not only because David was a true friend and colleague and because of what the award means," the statement read. "One thing that David and I shared was the belief that in order to really cover a story we need to be out in the field. You need to talk to the men and women who are shaping the story or are part of the events unfolding."

Bloom died in Iraq three years ago while reporting for NBC News.

His 12-year-old twin daughters, Christine and Nicole, presented the award Wednesday night.

"We love him very much, and we miss him," they said. "But tonight, we are not just thinking about our dad. We are also thinking about the other soldiers and journalists who have and are risking their lives throughout the world. We keep them all in our thoughts and prayers."
