Obama has sparked intense public fascination since she first began campaigning for her husband, President Barack Obama.
Raised on the south side of Chicago, Obama is a Harvard-educated attorney and the mother of two daughters, and she is said to be one of her husband's closest advisers and his daily "reality check."
In an interview with "Good Morning America" in 2007, Obama said, "I've got a loud mouth. I tease my husband. He is incredibly smart, and he is very able to deal with a strong woman, which is one of the reasons why he can be president, because he can deal with me."
As first lady, she has emerged as a passionate advocate for working women and, most recently, a fashion icon.
Obama appears on the cover of O magazine alongside Oprah Winfrey on the April 2009 cover, available on newsstands March 17, 2009. It is the first time anyone besides Oprah herself has appeared on the cover of O.
Roberts interviewed Michelle Obama on the campaign trail in August, and conducted the first interview with President Barack Obama from the inaugural Neighborhood Ball.
Portions of Roberts' March 13 interview will air on "World News with Charles Gibson" and "Nightline."
