coming up. But first, an intense manhunt of a man believed to be armed and dangerous. He vanished investigators tracking down leads from Oregon down to Los Angeles to find him. ABC's Reena ninan is here with how they found him. Reporter: He was hiding in plain sight, when they found out that he wasn't far from the crime scene, so close he could hear helicopters overhead. Overnight, Sacramento police announced they nabbed the former fire battalion chief on the run. He admitted his responsibility in the stabbing of Ms. Douglas. He's charged with murder becoming a wanted a man of his 26-year-old girlfriend of two years, was found strangled and stabbed to death in their home. We certainly knew that he was dangerous. Reporter: Police say the two met through the website with reported ties to escort services. They feared he could be as far as away as Mexico. But he was hiding just a few miles from his abandoned vehicle. He ventured out a couple of times to get food and water. Reporter: But they spotted him and swooped in. He was taken into custody without incident. Reporter: Police say he was disheveled and unarmed. If the authorities can demonstrate that he fled from justice, they could try to introduce that if in the trial to say the reason he left because he knew he was guilty.
