Transcript for Bus Accident Rescue: Children Pulled From Creek
nightmare school bus accident in kansas. Heavy rains playing a part on that bus full of children. Flipped off a bridge and into a creek. Amazingly, all of the kids are safe. John muller has the latest. Reporter: Good morning, robin. It had all of the makings of a halloween nightmare. The bus driver is in the hospital. But all ten children are safe and uninjured. The kids were thinking to get to the top of the bus. Ten kids and bus driver are flipped over in this creek. The bus flipped off this low-lying bridge, following two days of rain. It was these kids that sprang into action. As the clock ticks, they escaped through a hatch on the top of the bus. I went through the window. It was a hard time getting everybody out. Reporter: Patiently, and bravely, they sat on top of the bus as they waited for rescue. We had to get out really quick. It was cold. It was cold? There was water in my shoes. Reporter: The older kids, up to 13 years of age, helping the younger. I'm the oldest. Me and the bus driver was the last out of the bus. Reporter: Minutes after the bus driver called 911 for help, the rescue squad arrived, using rope systems and boats to get the kids to safety. It took a little over an hour to get everybody out. But everybody's safe and it's a good day. Reporter: On land, emotional reunions with parents and grandparents who feared the worst. My grandson just completed cpr training. And through the scouts. And some first aid training. And so, I'm glad he had that so he would be able to help everyone. Reporter: All right. The 60-year-old driver spent a lot of time in that water. He remains in the hospital with minor injuries and hyperthermia. But amazingly, everyone is alive and well.
