o.J. Simpson. He's been granted parole. That doesn't mean he'll be walking free anytime soon. Abc's neal karlinsky explains. Reporter: O.J. Simpson, waging a campaign on several fronts to get out of prison, has chalked up a rare victory. This nevada parole board ruling, which states parole granted, thanks to a positive institutional record, meaning good behavior, among other reasons. Some simpson argued in his own words to the board last week. I'm not an idiot, despite all of the stories in the tabloids. I haven't had one incident since I've been here. Reporter: Simpson won parole. But he's not going free because his sentence on this botched las vegas robbery to get back his own sports memorabilia, includes so many different charges, he won't go anywhere until a parole hearing on those other convictions, as well. A hearing at least four more years away. O.J. May not be walking out the door. But his key to the door is a lot closer. Reporter: At the same time, simpson is also waiting for a judge to rule on a possible retrial. At a hearing in may, his attorneys argued, simpson's previous lawyer botched the case. The hope, a new trial or outright freedom for the more than four years he's already served. He's already served more time than the d.A. Offered two to five years. I think that would be the reasonable thing to do. Reporter: A ruling on whether simpson deserves a new trial or not is in the works and expected within weeks. For "good morning america," neal karlinsky, abc news, seattle.
