The frightening power of mother nature is also on display in northern california. Josh, your mom's neighborhood. A landslide there. They're worried their homes may be next. Worse, no one knows why it's happening. Neal karlinsky has the latest. Reporter: What is happening to this neighborhood is a slow-motion catastrophe the homes crumbling bit by bit as the ground gives way beneath them. No clearer example than this. I'm standing on the drive way of a house that's sunk 10 to 12 feet. We toured the sinking subdivision with randall fitzgerald, whose home is safe now. He sleeps with one id open. It's called lake side heights. We call it landslide heights. Reporter: It's pulled the house apart six inches. The ground is so unlevel. I'm leaning a difference direction than where the rest of the house has fallen. Eight homes have been abandoned. Ten more are facing evacuation all because of what seems to be a mysterious and sudden gusher of underground water. Neighbors wlam everything from a faulty fire hydrant to a nearby dor nant tornado. A lot of broken dreams and uprooted lives at this point. Reporter: It gets worse. Neighbors say insurance coverage is inlukely. This is in lockdown. Probably locked down our entire lives. Reporter: Sewage pipes redirected. Mail carriers told to avoid this neighborhood, at least until the ground stops moving. For "good morning america," neal karlinsky, abc news, lake port, california.
