Do Other Traumatic Experiences Tend To Cause Depression?

Question: Do other traumatic experiences tend to cause depression?

Charles Nemeroff, M.D., Ph.D., Emory

Answer: Trauma in a variety of forms is associated with an increased risk of depression because trauma, of course, is very stressful. Therefore, terrorism, war, loss of a job, marital discord, physical violence, being in a motor vehicle accident, all of those kinds of traumas are associated with an increased risk for depression.
