Question: What is the role of long-acting nitrates in treating heart failure?

Answer: Long-acting nitrates dilate blood vessels, including the heart's own coronary arteries. They improve blood flow to the heart and reduce the work that the heart has to do, and therefore are quite useful in people with heart failure who also have chest pain due to coronary artery disease.
