July 1, 2009— -- Question: How does the amount I sleep affect my athletic performance?

Answer: Sleep is a very important part of athletic performance. Getting enough sleep during the day really helps you focus mentally. It helps you prepare for the tasks at hand. Probably more importantly, though, is sleep is where we get our benefits from our training. When we train during the day, we fatigue our body so it's very important that at night we get enough rest and recovery so that we can allow our body to adapt to that training.

So overall, from an athletic performance standpoint, sleep is incredibly important because that's the time when which our body changes and adapts to the stress that we put on it so that we have a higher athletic performance in the end. So overall, sleep is very important in improving your athletic ability and keeping you on top of your game.
