— -- Question: What is locally advanced breast cancer?

Answer: The term locally advanced breast cancer refers to cancers that are larger, have grown through the skin, or have more extensive lymph node involvement. One specific form of locally advanced breast cancer is called inflammatory breast cancer, where the cancer has grown into channels directly underneath the skin and causes the skin to be inflamed or red. Locally advanced breast cancers are Stage III cancers and are more likely to be able to spread and require aggressive treatment.
