What Are The Most Common Benign Conditions About Which I Should Be Concerned?
Dr. Lynn Hartmann answers the question:'What Benign Conditions Should Worry Me?'
— -- Question: What are the most common benign conditions about which I should be concerned?
Answer: The most important benign conditions that spell high-risk are in the atypia category -- atypical ductal hyperplasia, atypical lobular hyperplasia and also sometimes, not commonly we see lobular carcinoma in situ. These are very interesting lesions that say this breast tissue is at increased risk for a later breast cancer. How much of an increase? At least a four-times increase in risk.
So we certainly want these women being monitored by people in the know at a breast health center where they're accessing optimal surveillance and also being considered as candidates for chemoprevention studies.
