Answer: The patient should prepare for transrectal ultrasound guided biopsy in several different ways. One is stopping anything that may thin the blood prior to the procedure. This includes aspirin, ibuprofen and other medications that can cause bleeding. In addition patients are generally given an antibiotic prior to the procedure. In the final bit of preparation may include a fleet enema which would assist in cleaning out the rectum.
