If I Have A Swine Flu Infection, How Long Should I Wait Before I Go Back To Work?

Question: If I have a swine flu infection, how long should I wait before I go back to work?

William Schaffner, M.D., Vanderbilt University

Answer: Well if you've got an infection and you're ill, your illness will take two, three, four days to resolve. You can go back to work or back to school 24 hours after your temperature has come back to normal. So there will be a day when you feel pretty darn good, still recovering, but your temperature is down. Stay home that day also to make sure, first of all that you get completely better, and second, so you don't spread the virus to everybody at work or school.
