Is It Better To Take Over-The-Counter Drugs, Or Prescriptions With Side Effects?

Question: Hi, my name is Linda. I have multiple pain problems. My question is: Is it better to take over-the-counter drugs that may not work, or take prescriptions that would give you a side effect?

Prescription Versus Over-The-Counter?

Answer: Well, Linda, this is a question that many, many pain sufferers ask. One thing you need to understand is that over-the-counter pain medications may have just as many side effects as the prescription medications. For example, too much Tylenol could cause liver damage. And too much aspirin can cause bleeding. I think it's important that you speak with your physician, because your physician will know what type of pain medication is most appropriate for you.
