Arizona Man Brought 'Back to Life' After Attack by 'Huge Swarm of Bees'
The man's heart had stopped beating, an official said.
— -- An elderly man was recently "brought back to life" after he was attacked by a "huge swarm of bees" outside his home in Buckeye, Arizona, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
Jerry Mora, 71, had been working in his backyard on Tuesday afternoon when his wife Anna, 80, "suddenly heard him screaming and saw him being attacked by hundreds of bees," said Det. Doug Matteson, a spokesman for the sheriff's office.
Anna called 911 and within minutes, sheriff deputies, local fire departments and emergency personnel responded to the scene, Matteson told ABC News. He said that while firefighters sprayed foam to kill off the swarm, others worked on rescuing Jerry, who was found lying face-down on the ground.
"When they got him into the ambulance, he wasn't breathing and he didn't have a pulse anymore," Matteson said. "But while racing to the hospital, some firemen in the ambulance were able to revive him and brought him back to life."
Jerry, who is allergic to bees, suffered "probably at least a little over 20 to 25 bee stings," Matteson said. He added that Jerry was transported to a local hospital, where is he listed in serious but stable condition.
Anna was also transported to the hospital "out of precaution" and was treated for "dozen or so bee stings" but has since been released, according to Matteson.
Matteson credited Anna for saving her husband's life.
ABC News could not immediately reach Anna or Jerry Mora for comment.
