— -- A teen fighting an aggressive brain cancer recently got every baseball fan's dream when the Chicago Cubs "signed" him to the team for the day and surprised him with VIP treatment at Wrigley Field, according to the hospital who worked with the Cubs to surprise the teen.
Victor Ramirez, 16, was diagnosed with a glioblastoma brain tumor last December and has undergone treatment at the Advocate Children's Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, according to a post on the hospital's Facebook page.
The teen, who has been a Cubs fan since he was five, thought he was just going to be hanging out in the dugout before the game against the San Francisco Giants Thursday, but he was surprised with much more, the hospital said.
"He met his favorite players and Cubs Manager Joe Maddon surprised Victor with his own jersey [#39] and was even signed to the team for the day!" the hospital wrote.
The young fan got to serve as an honorary bat boy for the team and got to meet his "all-time favorite player, Anthony Rizzo," who signed a bat and baseball for him, the hospital said.
Ramirez and his family also got a behind-the-scenes tour of the Cubs Clubhouse, where he met Cubs pitcher Jason Hammel with his family, the hospital added.
The Cubs beat the Giants 5-4 at the game Thursday night.
