An American au pair was found dead Tuesday in Vienna, according to local police.

A State Department official confirmed that the woman was Lauren Mann. The U.S. Embassy in Vienna is providing consular assistance.

The 25-year-old's half-undressed body was found in a pool of blood in her apartment at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. No weapons were found at the scene, police said.

The woman was studying in the Austrian capital and was living alone in a one room apartment.

An autopsy has been performed but the cause of death remains unclear, a police spokesperson told ABC News. The case is being treated as a possible homicide.
