Footage of Suspect in Bangkok Bombing Emerges
The attack killed 22 people and injuring more than 100.
LONDON— -- Security camera footage showing what police say is a suspect in the Bangkok bombing emerged today.
The video from Monday, first aired by the Thai news agency Thairath, shows a man wearing a yellow T-shirt and a black backpack walking through the crowd at the Erawan Shrine. He is seen slipping off his backpack on a bench before departing.
A time-stamp on the video shows 6:40 p.m. local time, just 20 minutes before a bomb exploded, killing 22 people and injuring more than 100.
At a news conference earlier today, Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said authorities were looking for a suspect seen on CCTV footage near the scene of the bombing. According to The Associated Press, Police spokesman Lt. Gen. Prawut Thavornsiri said, "The yellow shirt guy is not just the suspect. He is the bomber."
No one has claimed responsibility and police said they had not ruled out any group, including elements opposed to the military government, although the attack does not match known tactics from insurgents in the south.
Meanwhile, another explosion today was caught on CCTV footage. Police said an explosive device was thrown from the Taksin Bridge at Sathorn Pier, but no one was hurt.
