7 Killed in Plane Crash at Shoreham Airshow in United Kingdom
The crashed happened at about 1:20 p.m.
— -- At least seven people were killed when a single-engine jet crashed onto a road at the Shoreham Airshow in the United Kingdom today, British police said.
The Hawker Hunter jet had just started its display at the airshow when, around 1:20 p.m., "it failed to pull out of a dive and crashed," the Sussex police said. The plane landed on a busy main road in Sussex and hit several cars.
Seven people died and the pilot was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital where he was listed as critically ill Saturday night, police said.
One person suffered life-threatening injuries and 14 people were minorly injured, according to the South East Coast Ambulance Service Foundation NHS Trust.
All of the deaths occurred on the road, police said, and it was believed that none of the people on the airfield were among the injured, officials said.
Superintendent Jane Derrick of the Sussex Police said it was possible there were still bodies at the scene.
"We are continuing to search the area to ensure that we have identified all casualties," Derrick said in a statement.
The Shoreham Airshow has cancelled its Sunday show.
