— -- An avalanche in the French Alps today has killed two middle school students and a tourist from Ukraine, according to France's French Interior Ministry.

The two students and Ukrainian citizen had been skiing on a closed slope on Les Deux Alps, said French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve.

The "children who died were part of a group of 19 students and three supervisors from the high school Saint Expery" in Lyon, France, Cazeneuve said. "All the other children from the group are safe and sound. They have been identified and are on their way back to Lyon by bus."

Another person was severely injured. Rescue teams continue to search for survivors, the ministry said.
