Dad Snaps Labor Selfie Minutes Before Wife Gives Birth
Gil Solano took a photo of himself as wife Sarah gave birth.
— -- A photo of a new dad is taking the Internet by storm after he snapped a selfie minutes before his wife gave birth Tuesday.
"I sent it to my brother-in-laws [sic] and a couple of friends and they were saying how funny it was," Gil Solano of London said today in an interview with “Good Morning America.” "I got on Reddit and thought, 'Hey, this is a funny picture. I'm sure a couple of people will like it.'"
Solano, who’s originally from Texas, said he took the hilarious picture of himself prior to the birth of daughter Eva, who was born at 7 pounds, 6 ounces, during wife Sarah's 12-hour labor in the background.
Since then the selfie has racked upwards of 2.4 million views.
"It was completely just on a whim," Gil Solano said. "Sarah during pushes, she didn't want any distractions, didn't want me in her face coaching.
"What I try to do is make her laugh," he added. "I knew that would make her laugh."
Despite the public's concern for Sarah's reaction to the photo going viral, the new mom is being a great sport about it becoming an overnight sensation.
"It didn't bother me," she said. "I think it's really funny that so many comments are, 'Oh, are you single now?'"
