DIY 101: Innovative Tips to Organize Your Garage for Fall
Is your garage cluttered? Don’t despair. Here are tips to fix it.
— -- With children going back to school across the country, parents may be looking for additional room at home. If the garage is messy, here’s how you can organize it so everything is easily accessible.
Chris and Peyton Lambton from HGTV’s “Going Yard” appeared on “Good Morning America” to show viewers quick fixes to best organize their garden tools, sports gear and work benches.
To keep garden tools upright and in line, they made organizers using PVC pipes cut down to the desired length and attached to the wall.
The couple also demonstrated how to make a portable magnetic tool strip – particularly useful for when you’re working on a project and you want a clean table for your workspace but also want your tools visible and at the ready.
Children’s sport equipment, dirty gear or other items can be placed in wall-mounted storage bins, they said.
For even more storage, they offered a flexible idea: A bin made using bungee cords. It’s created by building two wooden squares and attaching them to the wall about two feet off the floor. Hook the bungee cord onto the edges and place balls or other items inside the space you’ve created.
In a bonus video, the Lambtons also demonstrated how people can store DIY materials in jars. Using empty jars – such as pickle jars or peanut butter jars, they screwed the lid onto the underside of a shelf. Fill the jars with the material for storage – such as screws or nails -- and simply twist it up into the lid for an effective storage solution.
