Dog Reunited With Owner After 3 State, 4-Month Journey
Tex the dog was lost after a car accident.
— -- A Missouri woman was reunited in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with a puppy she lost four months ago in Houston, Texas.
The tri-state reunion originated last year when Rachel Kelsey, 23, moved to Houston from Kansas City, Missouri, for an internship. She adopted her dog, Tex, from a local animal shelter and the pair were best buds until one day in December when Kelsey was side-swiped by an 18-wheeler while driving in Texas.
Tex, who was in the car with his owner, disappeared after the accident.
“We looked for him for three hours, and we just couldn't find him," Kelsey told local ABC News station KTUL.
Kelsey returned to Missouri without her dog so she was surprised months later when she heard from a Texas animal shelter that they had found Tex in the state.
“I ran to my dad and started crying," Kelsey told KTUL. “They found Tex!"
Tex was found in Hearne, Texas, a town nearly 120 miles from Houston. A local animal shelter, Urgent Animals of Hearne, checked a micro chip embedded under Tex’s skin and was able to match him back to Kelsey.
On Saturday, Kelsey traveled with a friend to Tulsa – halfway between Kansas City and Hearne - to pick up Tex.
"I couldn't believe it,” Kelsey told KTUL. "After four months, I had no hope that I would find him, or that he'd be in such good health or anything, so this is beyond a miracle."
