Meet Brody: The Dog That Can Whisper on Command

— -- Your dog may be able to sit, roll over and speak, but can your dog whisper?

Unlike most dogs, Brody, a 5-year-old beagle-heeler mix, can whisper on command.

“Brody is like a human!” said owner Holly Stephens. “He is so sweet and smart and he is also extremely polite.”

Stephens, a language arts teacher for middle school students in Woodlands, Texas, said she often tries to teach Brody new tricks.

“It’s the teacher in me,” explained Stephens. “I wanted to be able to tell my students that if a dog could learn to whisper, then they could whisper too.”

What’s even more impressive is it took Stephens less than an hour to teach Brody how to whisper.

“He is such a fast learner,” said Stephens. “We have always thought it was weird that he seems to understand what we’re saying. He knows what ‘gentle’ means, so I just kept saying ‘gentle’ and eventually he got it.”

This is the first of unusual tricks Stephens has tried to teach Brody, but she said it won’t stop here.

“I took a vote with my students and they want me to teach him to get a drink out of the refrigerator," she said.
