Mom Thanks Apple Employee Who Showed Kindness Toward Her Son

— -- A Tennessee mom is singing the praises of a mall employee after he went out of his way to help her and her son following an in-store incident.

Rink said she and her son James, 9, were shopping for an iPad at the Apple store in Green Hills Mall in Nashville on Jan. 24 when James ran into the glass window.

"I ran over there and I sat down next to [James], but he doesn’t really want to be held, which is heartbreaking," Rink said. "In that moment, I was embarrassed because I knew I wasn't going to get him to stand up."

It was at that moment when Rink said an Apple employee named Andrew Wall came and sat down on the floor next to James.

"He said 'Is he OK? What do you need?'" Rink recalled. "You try as a special needs parent to look and always be normal and here we are sitting on thee floor."

James was born with Down syndrome and Rink said doctors later diagnosed him with autism.

"It's been very difficult to have a kid with autism because you take risks whenever you go out in the world," Rink said. "So when this happened and Andrew sat next to us, he might as well have given me a million dollars."

Rink said she was overjoyed when Andrew sat beside James and showed him how to use his new iPad -- so overjoyed, that she snapped a photo of the two of them and shared it onto her Facebook page.

"Your awesome employee sat with James on the floor of the store and set up the new iPad," Fink wrote. "There are no words to accurately describe how grateful I am that he took the time to ‘meet us right where we were.’ He didn’t have to sit down on the floor with us. He could have easily waited for us to stand. Could have easily waited for us to come back another day. But he hung out with us in the midst of our pain."

Fink's post was shared over 10,000 times and she even received a response from Andrew himself, thanking her for "making his day," she said.

Andrew Wall did not respond to ABC News' request for comment.

Angela Ahrendts, senior vice president of retail and online Apple stores, released the following statement to ABC News:

“We’re so proud of Andrew and celebrate how he and so many of our employees interact with their local communities every day. We wish James and his family all the best.”

Fink said she was happy that Andrew interacted so well with James, who even gave him a "fist bump" at the end of their exchange.
