— -- A small plane crashed in a suburban neighborhood in Pompano Beach, Florida, Monday afternoon, injuring three people.

The FAA told ABC News the plane was a Beech BE-76 aircraft. It crashed into a house shortly after departure from Pompano Beach Airpark at about 3 p.m., according to the FAA. The crash occurred in the 900 block area of Harbor Drive, about a half mile from the end of the runway where the plane took off. The pilot was practicing take-offs and landings, according to the FAA spokesperson.

Three people -- two males, one female -- were on the plane and taken to local hospitals, according to officials. They are listed in serious to critical condition.

Nobody on the ground was injured, Sandra King, a spokeswoman for the city of Pompano Beach, confirmed. She also said it was unclear why the plane crashed in the first place.

Pompano Beach Fire Chief John Jurgle said the passengers suffered burns to 30 to 40 percent of their bodies.

Aerial footage showed debris from the crash close to homes, and a part of one house was on fire.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
