    William Dathan Holbert, also known as "Wild Bill" Cortez, on the way to the infirmary while in police custody in Panama. He is accused of murdering five people: a New Mexican man named Bo Icelar, a local woman named Cheryl Hughes, and a family of three in the witness protection program.

    Bill Holbert and his girlfriend, Laura Michelle Reese, who went by the name Jane, were known for buying up properties and throwing elaborate parties. Neighbors gave him the nickname "Wild Bill" because he was known to fire his gun into the air.

    "Everybody knew he was crazy, but nobody thought he was a killer," neighbor Sandi Hodge said. Others began to get suspicious after learning Bill had bought Icelar's land for reportedly very little money.

    Police search Bo Icelar's house on the island of Bocas Del Toro. When Icelar turned up missing, Bill allegedly told neighbors he had left town and sold him his property.

    Near Holbert's restaurant was another property called the Hacienda Cortez, where Bill and Jane lived most of the time. It was later discovered it was once owned by another family in the witness protection program, the Browns, who vanished in 2007.     Neighbor Sandi Hodge first started to suspect Bill Holbert when his alleged victim Cheryl Hughes, 53, disappeared in March. Hodge said Holbert told her Hughes had sold him all of her properties and just left, leaving her dog behind.
