Nathan Bense, bureau chief, is a senior at Syracuse University majoring in broadcast journalism, policy studies, and history. He returned to Syracuse after having spent his spring 2009 semester in London.
A native of Rochester, N.Y., Bense has a strong interest in the issues that plague the midsized cities of upstate New York. As an active member of the community at home and at school, Bense loves meeting new people and hearing their stories. He is excited about how new technology allows stories to be told in ways that better engage the audience.
Ever since he was little, Bense has loved the news. Whenever a fire truck passed, he wanted to know what happened and who was affected. In high school, Nathan served as an editor-in-chief of the student newspaper. While at Syracuse, he has reported for a variety of campus media, including Citrus TV News, WAER public radio, and CONNECT, a student produced public affairs program airing on the Syracuse ABC affiliate WSYR. In the past two years, Nathan has interned in the newsrooms of WROC-TV (CBS) and WHAM-TV (ABC) in Rochester. He also was a marketing intern at Home HeadQuarters, Inc., a non-profit in Syracuse.
When not checking the latest news updates, Bense can often be found taking pictures, going for a walk, or reading a book.
Julia Aubuchon is a senior at Syracuse University, dual majoring in broadcast journalism and geography. Fulfilling her love of both majors, Aubuchon spent her spring semester studying abroad, taking courses in television in central London and traveling around Europe. Hailing from the Sunshine State, she's spent the past two summers interning in Southwest Florida, first at WFTX in Cape Coral and then at WINK in Fort Myers. For the past three years, Aubuchon has served as an anchor, executive producer and reporter for CitrusTV News, the oldest student-run television station in the United States.
Just last year she won CitrusTV's "Best Reporter" award, as voted on by a panel of Newhouse professors.
Matthew Nojiri is a senior at Syracuse University, majoring in newspaper journalism and history. He is also interning for The Post-Standard in fall 2009.
Matthew is originally from Neshanic Station, N.J.

Markham also volunteers as a lector at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Syracuse. He is originally from Huntington on Long Island, and graduated from Chaminade High School.
