Rudy Giuliani Dresses Like a Girl

March 7, 2007 — -- Rudy Giuliani dresses like a girl. Well, to be fair, like a woman. Literally.

He has dressed in drag numerous times in skits, including on national television for "Saturday Night Live."

Of course, I don't have a problem with this. Even though the last guy who did this on a consistent basis and worked for the government was J. Edgar Hoover -- and that didn't work out so well for us.

But the theory is that this will really hurt him with the Republican base. And so will his three marriages, the fact that he was married to his cousin and that his kids don't really like him and hardly speak to him.

I doubt it. I think the conservative base is full of hypocrites and they don't care about this stuff at all. They all know tons of people who have been divorced and have completely messed-up families. When they say "family values," they don't mean family values. They mean "We don't like gay people."

I have never seen a well-publicized, well-financed effort by the right to reach out to families in need. No effort to make sure families can stay together through the hard times. No effort to comfort and take care of the needs of real families in America.

I have seen a ton of gay bashing disguised as caring about "traditional marriages" and "family values." I have never seen a poll that showed that conservatives actually give a damn about how a politician actually treats his real family. But in the last poll I saw, the three leading Republican candidates -- Rudy Giuliani, John McCain and Newt Gingrich -- were all divorced.

Gingrich -- who isn't officially running yet, but came in third with the faithful anyway -- tried to divorce his wife while she was lying in a hospital bed. Classy.

Did that audacious act of family values disqualify him among the right wing who pretend to care so much about this issue? Of course not. They didn't care one bit. Newt isn't gay, so mission accomplished, the rest is irrelevant.

Look, if Republicans really cared about preserving the sanctity of marriage they would ban celebrities from getting married. Those are the real people ruining traditional marriage, not gay guys. Britney Spears has done more damage to the institution of marriage than all of the gay men and women in America combined.
