Sen. Kennedy Taken to Cape Cod Hospital
Kennedy was taken to a Cope Cod hospital but went home after a couple of hours.
Sept. 26,2008— -- Sen. Ted Kennedy, who is undergoing treatment for brain cancer, suffered a minor seizure and was taken to a Cape Cod, Mass., hospital, but was able to return to a nearby vacation home soon afterwards.
"Sen. Kennedy experienced a mild seizure at home in Hyannis Port today and was taken to Cape Cod Hospital for examination," the Massachusetts senator's office said in a written statement. "Doctors believe the incident was triggered by a change in medication. Sen. Kennedy will return home tonight and looks forward to watching the debate."
Barnstable, Mass., Police Sgt. Ben Baxter said the 911 call from the Kennedy compound in Hyannis Port came at about 5:10 p.m. on Friday. Baxter said Kennedy was then taken by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital, and was "alert and responsive" during the trip.
A little before 8:00 p.m., he was discharged from the hospital.
Sen. John Kerry, the junior senator from Massachusetts and longtime friend of Kennedy's, told ABC News that Kennedy, D-Mass., was in the hospital but that "he's fine -- just a check."
Kennedy had a seizure in May and underwent surgery in June for a malignant brain tumor. After undergoing six weeks of chemotherapy and radiation treatment, he has been steadily increasing his public activity.
In early September, Kennedy announced he would not return to the Senate until January.
In August, he made an emotional appearance at the Democratic National Convention to endorse Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama.
