Anthony Weiner's Aide's Foul Mouth Attack on Ex-Intern

July 31, 2013— -- A top aide to Anthony Weiner's campaign lashed out at a former campaign intern with a stream of crude slurs for women after the ex-intern wrote a tell-all story about her experience in a New York newspaper.

In an interview with Talking Points Memo, Weiner's communications director Barbara Morgan fired back in profanity-laced frustration at the intern, calling her a slut as well as much stronger epithets, and threatening to sue the intern.

"I'm dealing with like stupid f***ing interns who make it on to the cover of the [New York] Daily News even though they signed NDAs and/or they proceeded to trash me," Morgan said, according to TPM. A NDA is a non-disclosure agreement.

"And by the way, I tried to fire her, but she begged to come back and I gave her a second chance," she told the Daily News.

This latest drama in the former congressman's beleaguered campaign was prompted by former intern Olivia Nuzzi who painted an unflattering picture of the campaign in a New York Daily News piece.

In her account, Nuzzi, a college student, said that she joined the campaign because she thought it would be "educational and entertaining," but other interns joined with the hope of growing closer to Weiner's wife Huma Abedin, and by proxy Abedin's boss Hillary Clinton.

She also accused Weiner of repeatedly calling female interns "Monica."

Weiner, a former congressman who resigned in 2011 for sending sex messages to women online, is running to be New York City's next mayor. After new revelations emerged that he continued sexting women after leaving Congress, Weiner has plummeted from a front runner to fourth place in the polls.

Morgan told ABC News that she thought the interview with TPM was off the record and she has since apologized to Nuzzi.

"In a moment of frustration, I used inappropriate language in what I thought was an off the record conversation," Morgan said. "It was wrong and I am very sorry, which is what I said tonight when I called and emailed Olivia to apologize."

Weiner stood by his aide when asked by a New York Post reporter today whether she would continue working for his campaign.

Morgan also issued an apologetic tweet accompanied by a photo of a "swear jar" filled with hundred dollar bills and a Visa card.

"Not my best day yesterday. Should've known better, been better. Gotta pay up," Morgan wrote.

In the TPM interview, Morgan said she did not know Nuzzi's motives for joining the campaign, but disparaged her abilities.

"She sucked. She like wasn't good at setting up events. She was clearly there because she wanted to be seen. Like it was, like, terrible and I had to like - she would like, she would just not show up for work," said Morgan.

"For the four weeks she worked there --- she didn't work weekends, so 20 days total. Of those 20 days, she missed probably five because she would just like not show up and not tell me she wasn't going to be there. So, yeah, so there's that."

In a tweet this morning Nuzzi acknowledged Morgan's apology.

"As to Barbara Morgan's apology, of course I accept it," she wrote.

Nuzzi did not respond to ABC News' requests for comment.
