— -- Bernie Sanders' campaign has released the Vermont senator's federal 2014 tax return, making good on a promise the presidential hopeful made earlier this week.
During the Democratic debate in New York Thursday, Sanders had pledged to release his "boring" tax returns to the public. "We will get them out very shortly," he said.
Sanders filed a joint tax return with his wife, Jane, that shows an adjusted gross income of $205,617 in 2014.
The breakdown of the Sanderses' income in 2014 is as follows: $156,441 in wages from Sanders' position in the Senate, after contributions to a savings plan and health insurance; $4,900 in business income; $4,982 in pensions and annuities; and $39,281 in Social Security benefits.
During the latest debate, Sanders said there would be no big money from speeches and no major investments on his return.
Candidates are not legally required to release their tax returns.
The couple's federal taxable income came to $140,994. They paid $27,653 in federal taxes and $14,843 in real estate taxes.
